In the Summer of 2021, Kannada Academy (KA) was accredited by WASC. Accreditation from WASC also allowed for local Kannada Kali Schools under the KA umbrella to award credits independently within the framework of State and Local Education Policies.
Additionally, Kannada Academy also worked with Avant Testing to create a STAMP Exam for the Kannada language. The STAMP Exam allowed students to receive the Seal of Biliteracy and High School Credits in select localities.
In the Winter of 2022, our LMS & Accreditation Director worked with the Virginia Dept. of Education, Kannada Academy, and Henrico County Public Schools to create a framework for RKK students to receive the necessary world language credits from Kannada needed to graduate High School.
Students have two avenues to receive high school credit: KA Course Completion or the STAMP Exam.
STAMP Exam - Students must reach out to their School Counseling Dept. and Testing Coordinator regarding the Kannada STAMP Exam. Students will be prompted to speak fluently and to write essays in Kannada. Mastery of the official InScript Kannada Keyboard (not transliterating) is necessary for the essay section.
KA Course Completion - Students must meet the VDOE 90% Attendance Policy and keep good grades. RKK will stay in accordance with all its policies regardless of local variances. At the end of the eight levels, students/parents must contact RKK and their school counselor regarding high school credits. The counselor will review the KA transcript with attendance and grades before transferring them to the official VDOE transcript.
RKK-KA Homework Policy: Homework will take approx. 30 minutes and will consist of a pair of Bookwidgets, one textbook activity, and one reading/writing activity given by the teacher.
Parents will be asked to sign the syllabus during registration stating that they have understood the above guidelines and are interested in keeping their child eligible for HS credits. Thank you and please let us know if you have any questions.
